14:25 – POLA CHANCE (13) caught the eye from a long way back when fourth at Market Rasen and is worth chancing to reverse the form with What Will Be and Two Blondes, who both made promising hurdling debuts in their own right but had prior racing experience from the Flat. Smoki Smoka is the most interesting hurdling newcomer.
15:00 – KAHDIAN (5) has failed to meet market expectations in his two outings for the Olly Murphy yard to date, but the nine-year-old remains potentially well treated judged on the pick of his old form, and he is likely to find few better opportunities than this to get back to winning ways. Indeed, he is 4 lb clear of his nearest rival on weight-adjusted ratings here, and the step back up in trip might be the catalyst he needs to rediscover his best form, with Richard Johnson – who has ridden five winners from his last 12 rides at the time of writing – in the saddle once again.
15:35 – CHIEFTAIN’S CHOICE (7) could be worth chancing now wearing a first-time visor in this third leg of the Placepot, having edged back down to a good mark. Olly Murphy has a couple of interesting handicap debutants in Swaffham Bulbeck and Adjutant. The former looks to have been handed a fair opening mark on what he’s achieved so far, while the latter remains unexposed.
16:10 – There’s scope from the current mark of ROBIN DES PEOPLE (3) based on his form in hunter chases for David Brace, and following a promising stable debut, he is expected to step up having undergone breathing surgery since. Between The Waters arrives at the top of his game, while Arthur’s Sixpence is already a better chaser than hurdler.
16:45 – SIMPLY LOVELEH (6) confirmed the promise of her hurdling debut to get off the mark at Uttoxeter last time, quickening clear on the approach to two out and always doing enough thereafter, for all that the runner-up was starting to bridge the gap on the run-in. That form sets the clear standard on weight-adjusted ratings here, and while recent bumper winner Vinnie’s Getaway is an obvious danger, Simply Loveleh remains with potential over hurdles in her own right, and is taken to continue the fine form of the Dan Skelton yard (71.5% of runners performing to expectations).
17:20 – Dai Burchell can boast a £97.87 level stakes profit when sending just one runner to a meeting, and it could just pay to take a chance on his KING ALFONSO (5) in this concluding leg of the Placepot. He recorded a hat-trick of wins towards the end of summer in 2018, and though well below that form for the most part since, there was more encouragement to be taken from his latest third at Cartmel, when shaping as if he might be ready to take advantage of his much-reduced mark (2 lb lower than when recording his last win). Hidden Charmer and Atlantic Storm are next best.
17:55 – BLACK ANTHEM (5) bounced back to form when third at Exeter in April and has since joined a yard going great guns at present, so a big run is anticipated. Rasasee has obvious claims under a penalty, while Sin Sin should be shedding his maiden tag soon enough.
