17:30 – While he’s not getting any younger, the Joanna Mason-ridden SPACE WAR (9) clearly retains plenty of enthusiasm judged on victories at Southwell and Nottingham on two of his last three starts. He escapes a penalty for last week’s success at the latter course and should again prove too strong for Queen of Kalahari. Wensley needs considering with Serena Brotherton booked and Magical Molly Joe is also in with a shout.
18:00 – The John Fretwell-owned SPRING BLOOM (5) made a positive start to his career when runner-up at Leicester last month and, with that experience to draw upon here, he is taken to go one better. Birdie Bowers was disappointing last time, but it’s far too soon to write him off given the promise he showed on debut. Newcomer Better The Devil, who is related to winners in America, needs close attention in the betting.
18:30 – The one who appeals most is the experienced seven-year-old HILLGROVE ANGEL (5), who regained the winning thread on his second start for this yard at Ayr and remains on a handy mark, despite going up 4 lb for that. The hat-trick seeking Majeste has a question to answer stamina-wise and it could be that Sosian and Seaborough, first and second respectively at Redcar recently, will emerge as the main dangers.
19:00 -Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ INSPIRED THOUGHT (1) appears to be a sprinter going places judged on her recent Redcar victory and, with the distinct prospect of better to come, a 6 lb rise is unlikely to prevent her from striking again for her in-form trainer. Gale Force Maya, who had Lady Calcaria back in third when making a winning reappearance at Pontefract, may again have the measure of that rival and she is next on the list.
19:30 – A chance is taken on ODDS ON OLI (6), who stepped up on his tame reappearance display when sixth at Redcar and is now 10 lb below his last winning mark. At the time of writing, Rebel State, Milan Reef and Quiet Moment, who all ran on Tuesday, will take their chance again.Of those, Carlisle third Milan Reef is of most interest. Lukoutoldmakezebak and Chinese Spirit are others to consider.
20:00 – With Samstar a non-runner, preference is for MONSIEUR PIQUER (9). He took the scenic route at Southwell last time but still shaped with some promise in fourth and should make his presence felt from this lowly handicap mark. Be Bold and Crazy Tornado are respected, while Spirit of Sarwan, who didn’t put up much of a fight at Carlisle on Tuesday, will also be a threat if bouncing back.
20:30 – It’s hard to look beyond AIR RAID, who barely broke sweat when scoring over C&D last week and he’s a sizeable step ahead of the handicapper under a penalty. Assuming Global Spirit, who was also successful here last time, doesn’t take his chance (due to run at Thirsk on Tuesday), Cale Lane and Final Go can fill the places.
21:00 – ONE BOY failed to reward punters’ faith at Beverley a fortnight ago, but that effort nevertheless represented a step back in the right direction. Now 3 lb below his last winning mark, Paul Midgley’s charge is taken to get his head back in front, perhaps at the chief expense of Groundworker. Leeshaan, Racquet and The Bull are others to consider.
