Timeform take you through the card at Goodwood on Friday evening…
“… is proven with give underfoot and made an impressive debut for Ian Williams at Salisbury last month.”
Timeform on Ship of the Fen
18:05 – The Ian Williams-trained CARDANO (1) is thriving at present, having stepped u psignificantly on his all-weather form since tackling the turf, and he looks up to completing the hat-trick under a penalty. Edmond Dantes and Crimean Queen are others going the right way, while Trelinney shaped better than the bare result under a considerate ride after seven months off at Kempton last month, and is bred to get this longer trip (dam a half-sister to the smart winner up to 12.3f Mickdaam). Her trainer has a good record with such types and an improved effort is expected tonight.
18:35 – With interesting newcomer a non-runner, this looks a good opportunity for DIVA KAREEM (3) to build on her promising debut third at Kempton. Decora is another who is entitled to build on her debut third at Lingfield, where she wasn’t given a hard time at all, while Krishmaya is more speedily bred than most of the yard and needs monitoring in the betting as a result.
19:10 – Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ SHIP OF THE FEN (4) is proven with give underfoot and made an impressive debut for Ian Williams at Salisbury last month. He makes fair appeal in his follow-up bid. Mugatoo is much respected despite the handicapper having his say since his Doncaster victory, whilst C&D winner Rydan could also play a part. He is Gary Moore’s only runner at Goodwood this evening and though it’s not far from his Lower Beeding base, it’s worth noting the yard’s good record when only sending one horse to a meeting. The eight-year-old won over C&D early last month and ran to a similar level when fourth over 2m three weeks later. He’s still on a fair mark (won off 80 in 2016) and acts on soft ground.
19:40 – The Tom Dascombe-trained KATIESHEIDINLISA (5) created a fine impression with her two victories earlier this season and it’s worth excusing her latest effort at Chester where the race might have come too soon (only five days after her Doncaster win). She can get back on the up here. White Chocolate and Chartered rate the likeliest dangers, the last-named having always looked the type to improve when entering handicaps.
20:15 – SARASOTA BAY (2) took her form up a notch when just held at Carlisle a fortnight ago and remains low-mileage. She is fancied to open her account for her in-form yard. Recent course winner All Back To Mine, who has taken her form up a notch this year, and the well-bred maiden Gleeful are feared, but the biggest danger may be In Trutina. She makes her debut this evening after running well on two of her three starts in maidens, quickly putting a flop at Ripon behind her when winning at Redcar last time. She was well backed that day (yard know the time of day) and a BHA mark of 65 could underestimate her somewhat.
20:45 – Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ HEREBY (6) showed plenty of promise at Salisbury last month, where she wasn’t ideally placed but finished well, and she can make significant progress as she steps up in trip (out of an Oaks winner). Selino sets a standard that should see him go close. With Dramatic Device a non-runner, the biggest threat may come from James Fanshawe’s runner who has run to a fairly useful level in two runner-up efforts to date.
