Senegal vs Tunisia
Competition: Africa Cup of Nations
Date: 14 July 2019
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
Idrissa Gueye’s goal in the 69th minute made all the difference in Senegal’s game against Benin in the quarterfinals. Sadio Mane provided the assist, Gueye finished it off in the best possible way, 1-0 for Senegal, who are still considered top favorites to go all the way and lift the trophy in the final. Their win combined with “under 2.5 goals”, at 2.62, was the tip here in their quarterfinal. Aliou Cisse, Senegal’s coach, when asked about his team’s chances of winning the title, kept a low profile, same way he has done since the start of the tournament. His answer was about the level of football in the continent in general, saying that the game is evolving throughout Africa, more teams get stronger, and provide the “traditional powers” with even more competition, which is definitely true.
Tunisia played their best game in the tournament – thus far – in their quarterfinal versus Madagascar, doing an awesome job defensively, and… taking care of business offensively in the second half. They did need a good deal of luck to open the scoring in the 50th minute, the ball got deflected off a defender’s…. butt, but Tunisia had already been the better team on the pitch before that, and there was definitely no luck involved in their second and third goal. It’s worth mentioning that they finished the game without having allowed Madagascar a single real scoring chance, a Madagascar side that had done fantastic in their previous games in the competition. Tunisia’s coach, Alain Giresse, was one relieved man at the end of their quarterfinal, as it was a common secret that if they lost, he would be left without a job before the end of the night.

Senegal vs Tunisia: Prediction
Senegal are considered relatively clear favorites to win the game, but I wouldn’t bet on that. I prefer to focus on goals instead.
