Racing Club vs Tigre
Competition: Argentina Copa de la Superliga
Date: 15 May 2019
Kick-off: 00:00 CET
If you watch the highlights of last weekend’s game in Victoria, the first leg between these two, you may be left with the impression that the guy who chose the highlights is an avid Tigre fan, or a… serious “anti-Racing” one. You won’t see a single Racing scoring chance, but there is nothing… sinister behind that; very simply, Racing didn’t create a single real chance to score in 90 minutes. Captain Lisandro López played just for a few minutes at the end of the match last weekend, returning from injury. He is expected to start in the return leg, substituting Jonatan Cristaldo. Leonardo Sigali as well should return to the starting lineup, taking Lucas Orban’s spot at the back. As for Chilean midfielder Marcelo Díaz, he couldn’t recover on time to make himself available.
Tigre beat Racing 2-0 at home last weekend, earning a big advantage ahead of the return leg. On Monday though, they received some bad news, when Walter Montillo’s agent told reporters that the veteran midfielder would be happy to sign at River Plate. Recently, he had said that under certain circumstances, he would consider staying at Tigre, despite the fact that they got relegated. Putting yourself in his shoes though, you can see why the 35-year-old is tempted to sign – for the last time – at a big – much bigger than Tigre, who are anything but “small”, of course – club like River. Montillo scored their first goal last weekend, and as almost always, was one of their best players on the pitch.
