MLB Thursday Tips: Minnesota to take advantage while Mariners are seasick

MLB Thursday Tips: Minnesota to take advantage while Mariners are seasick

Which Zach is the man?

Milwaukee Brewers @ Philadelphia Phillies
Thursday, 18:05 BST
Live on BT Sport ESPN

Christian Yelich hasn’t been the only star man in the Brewers dugout. Starting pitcher Zach Davies has dominated opposing batters, only alloweing two or fewer runs in all of his eight starts. He has a 4-0 record with an outstanding 1.54 ERA. He’s even kept Philadelphia’s star man Bryce Harper down to a .250 Batting Average in his time.

That paired with Yelich’s form of .296 BA in his last seven games and Milwaukee’s form of W7-L3 in their last ten games means they may give starting Phillies pitcher Zach Eflin a tough time; even though he himself has a 2.47 ERA. Brewers to Win at 11/10 is a good bet here.

It’s first vs last but should be close

Chicago Cubs @ Cincinnati Reds
Thursday, 23:40 BST
Live on BT Sport ESPN

The Reds with Luis Castillo on the mound, do not look like a team that should be last in the NL Central. He has a W4-L1 record with a 1.76 ERA with 70 strikeouts and a changeup pitch which is dominating. He’s also kept Cubs bats such as Anthony Rizzo and Russell Addison at bay.

They face an in-form lefty in Jose Quintana, who is 4-1 with a 2.29 ERA in his last six games, so expect this one to be close and back Under +8.5 Total Runs at 10/11.

Expect runs

Minnesota Twins @ Seattle Mariners
Friday, 03:10 BST

So one thing to take note of this game is that both starting pitchers have pitiful ERAs, if this somehow keeps under the Over Runs line of +9.5 (currently at 4/5), I’d be very surprised.

Seattle’s man on the mound is rookie Erik Swanson. It’s tough being a rookie, and his record shows it; 6.35 ERA, a record of W1-L4, inconsistent and his last start he gave up seven runs in 4 2/3 innings. On the Twins side, former New York Yankees pitcher, Michael Pineda is experienced but showing signs of deterioration. He has a 7.56 ERA in his last five starts however he is showing signs of life with his first quality start in his last game against Detroit.

The Mariners form has not been great either, after such a powerful start to the MLB season they have fallen behind rivals Houston Astros in the AL West, whilst Minnesota still remains strong in the AL Central. I’ll definitely take on the Over +9.5 Runs in this, but if you want to bump the price, back Twins to Win and the Over 9.5 at 9/4.
