Internacional vs Bahia
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 13 June 2019
Kick-off: 02:30 CET
“We know what we need”, Internacional’s coach Odair Hellmann told reporters a couple of days ago, when asked if the club will try to strengthen the squad during the Copa América break. Hellmann avoided giving details (it would be really surprising if he did, if he talked about specific positions), but he left no doubt, Inter will have at least one or two new players once the season restarts. Last weekend they lost 2-1 at Vasco da Gama, their first defeat in eight matches, in all competitions. Marcelo Lomba, Zeca, Roberto (or Klaus), Víctor Cuesta, Uendel, Rodrigo Lindoso, Nonato, Nico López, D’Alessandro, Patrick (or Edenílson) and Rafael Sobis, these should be the first 11. Inter are on 13 points from eight matches in the championship, sitting seventh in the table, right below Bahia.
Bahia’s centre-back Ernando told reporters on Monday that he would prefer going on playing during Copa América, instead of spending a month on a break. You can see his point, taking into consideration the fact that Bahia are going through an awesome period. Last weekend they drew 0-0 at Ceará, not the best possible, but still a decent result, while just before that, they had won four games in a row, climbing up in the Serie A table, and eliminating Sao Paulo in Copa do Brasil. Winger Élber did not travel with the group, injured. Unlike him, striker Gilberto did travel, having recovered from an injury that kept him out of their last two matches. Bahia are on 14 points from eight matches in the championship, sixth in the table, having kept a clean sheet in their last three away games (Serie A and Copa do Brasil combined).
