We’re off to a popular holiday destination tonight, and Kev’s hoping that defences will knock off a bit early.
Promotion hopefuls to come out swinging
Thursday 13 June, 20:00
It’s wasn’t as grim for Gremio as we needed it to beas they netted an 81st-minute winner to ruin Botafogo’s flawless home record. We’ve hit a rough patch this week, but in the words of the great philosopher Yoda, we must learn patience and control.
We’ll head to the sun-kissed Balearic Isle of Mallorca now, because there’s a Segunda Division promotion playoff first leg to be played between Mallorca and Albacete.
Neither team ended the season with much momentum. Albacete lost their last two games of the regular season as they ended up fourth, while Mallorca took just two points from their final three outings.
Mallorca are the [1.96] favourites here, and I suspect that’s based on their fine home record. They won ten of their last 12 home matches of the campaign, and they haven’t lost at the Iberostar Estadi since a defeat to Malaga in early December.
It is however worth bearing in mind that Albacete beat Mallorca home and away this season, and they put five goals past them across those two encounters. Only the divisional champions Osasuna scored more goals than Albacete over the course of the regular season.
Mallorca are very strong at home, but their defeats to Albacete this season mean I can’t be tempted to back them at odds-on. Instead I’ll go forat [2.12]. Mallorca scored in every single home match in the league this term, and I think Albacete can do some damage too.
