Eintracht Frankfurt vs Mainz
Competition: Germany Bundesliga
Date: 12 May 2019
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
Humiliation (6-1) at Bayer Leverkusen last weekend, elimination in the Europa League midweek, Eintracht Frankfurt are first and foremost called to… find the mental strength to cope with those two very bad results. They did so well midweek in London, drew 1-1, pushed the tie to penalties, but Chelsea did better there, and Eintracht missed the opportunity to play in a UEFA competition final. Good news was that Sebastien Haller returned to action after a month and a half out. Not just once, but twice, he went super close to scoring Eintracht’s second goal, which would have given them the ticket to the final. Both times, Chelsea defenders, David Luiz and Davide Zappacosta, cleared the ball practically over the line(!). Midfielder Sebastian Rode got injured in London, and was considered doubtful on Saturday. Eintracht are expected to start with Trapp, Abraham, Hasebe, N’Dicka, da Costa, de Guzman, Fernandes, Kostic, Gacinovic, Paciencia and Jovic. As previously mentioned, Rode is doubtful, while Tawatha is out for sure,
Last weekend’s 3-3 between Mainz and RB Leipzig was an awesome proof that even when left without an interest in points, teams in the Bundesliga anything but… give up. Mainz had no chance of earning a Europa League ticket, getting relegated was not an issue, they had nothing but their pride to play for, and despite going 0-2 and 1-3 down, they managed to salvage a point(!), scoring twice in the last 25 minutes, playing – be reminded – against one of the hottest teams in the country for weeks and weeks now. If there are no late surprises, they will start with Müller, Donati, Hack, Niakhate, Martin, Gbamin, Kunde, Latza, Boetius, Quaison and Mateta. They have Mwene out, while the day before the game, Onisiwo was doubtful.
