Alan Thompson returns to the tipping chair today and is looking to get his week off to a good start with two musical selections from Sandown and York…
Rhythmic Intent looks to have found a weak race to break his maiden tag
Stuart Williams team aren’t having the best of fortune at present but I fancy their three-year-old colt Rythmic Intent will get them back in the groove. He finished fifth and third as a two-year-old in two maiden outings which weren’t anything to get too excited about but he made an eye catching seasonal reappearance at Nottingham in April, in a race that is working out very well. He was beaten into third that day by Space Blues who has subsequently come out and won on both his starts, the latter of which was at Epsom in listed company and is he is now rated in the hundreds. The winner of that Nottingham race was called Fifth Position, who has since run third in listed company (beaten just a couple of lengths) at Goodwood and is another that is now rated in treble figures.
Based on that run against those two, this colt looks potentially thrown in here running off an opening mark of 77. He also has the services of P J McDonald in the plate who rides this track exceptionally well. I think it will take a smart performer to beat Rythmic Intent in this company today and I am not sure there is one in the line up. Ritchie Valens could potentially be a threat but he has run three times off a mark in the high seventies, including running at this level where he was beaten three lengths. He was out of his depth last time out in Class 2 company and this drop back in class will help him but I think he will be outclassed by Rythmic Intent.
Sir Dancealot can waltz into the winners enclosure
I think Sir Dancelot has to have an outstanding chance at the weights, remember this five-year-old gelding won in Group 2 company at Newbury last August and he wasn’t disgraced when finishing a more then respectable seventh in the Group 1 Lockinge on his seasonal return. Today’s trip with some cut in the ground will certainly be in his favour and dropping into this grade should be all he needs to get his head in front again.
He is up against younger horses but I think he may be too clever and have too much ability for these. This is the first time he has dropped out of group company since June last year and he looks to have a great chance.
